Windows Server 2012 R2 is the second iteration of Windows Server 2022. Some of the new features in Windows Server 2012 R2 include hybrid cloud support, enhancements to storage and virtual machine (VM) portability.

Windows Server 2012 R2 provides the following enhancements:

Windows Azure technology to help customers create multi-tenant web and virtual machine cloud services.
Site-to-Site VPN Gateway to help customers seamlessly bridge physical and virtual networks and extend them from a corporate data center to a service provider’s data center.

Features such as Storage Spaces Tiering, VHDX resizing and de-duplication for virtual desktop infrastructure to provide high performance for critical on-premises workloads (like SQL and Hyper-V) using lower-cost, commodity computers. Windows Server Work Folders, Web App Proxy and improvements to Active Directory Federation Services and other technologies to help companies give their employees consistent access to company resources on the device of their choice.

In comparison to its predecessor Windows Server 2012 R2 the new Server operating system delivers many enhancements:
A proven, enterprise-class datacenter and cloud platform that can scale up to run the largest workloads while enabling robust recovery options to protect against service outages.
Automated protection and recovery of assets and cost-effective business continuity on-premises and in the cloud
Resilient, multi-tenant-aware storage and networking capabilities for a wide range of workloads. It delivers these capabilities at a fraction of the cost of other solutions, through the use of cost-effective FUJITSU Server PRIMERGY hardware.

Enables mission-critical applications and provides enhanced support for open standards, open source applications and various development languages.
Provides an operating system platform that empowers the user by granting them access to corporate resources on the devices they choose while protecting critical information

Important notice to customers: All future security and nonsecurity updates for Windows Server 2012 R2 require this update to be installed. We recommend that all customers install this update on their Windows Server 2012 R2-based FUJITSU Server PRIMERGY systems in order to receive continued future updates.
